My child tends to be a bit slow at picking things up so the small class size is good for him and gives him confidence.

More often than not, children starting at the Civitas Schools are shy and lacking in confidence in their English and maths studies. When they leave at the end of year 6, they take great pride in what they have achieved and are enthusiastic about starting their new secondary schools - confident they will be able contribute in class and excel in their new lessons.

English teacher Charles Brickdale with Ann Cryer, MP for Keighley, on her visit to the Saturday School in October 2008It’s been a great pleasure being here in Keighley seeing the work of the supplementary schools. Some of the children are, I understand, regarded by their parents of as being a bit behind. The supplementary schools bring them on. There are other children whose parents feel they are capable of more than they are achieving and need a bit of a push and therefore they’re getting that push from the supplementary schools. It seems to be working very well. There’s an extremely pleasant atmosphere all round and I’ve very much enjoyed being here.

It was a struggle fitting Saturday School in with my daughter's other activities to begin with, but I knew changing days to ensure that she could go to Saturday School would be in her best interest.

I am really surprised how she has taken to going to Saturday School. I thought I would have moans and groans, but it has been positive all the way. She seems to have really connected with the teachers and always starts her homework as soon as she gets home.

She has always been slightly below average, and I know that we still have a long way to go, but I have seen an improvement in her willingness to try and in her attitude.

Thanks to the teachers and to your team for putting the school together. It great to know that there are people out there willing to help parents, like me, who are struggling to help their children improve.

I am very impressed with the set up at the David Copperfield Saturday School. The children who attend the Saturday School are benefitting from the small class sizes there and the individual care they receive. It was clear to see that the children enjoy the school and at the same time learn a great deal.

Hands up in the classroomThe quality of the teachers is very high. My daughter enjoys their teaching and follows their instructions carefully. The end of term reports give me a clear idea of my daughter's progress. I strongly feel that the contributions of the Saturday School have been a blessing to the children. The high standard of teaching and close attention to individual needs have resulted in remarkable progress in the students.

“My child has gained an enormous amount of confidence as a direct result of these classes. Since attending the Camberwell classes he has gone from two years behind where he should be, to a level appropriate for his age. The small classes and one-to-one tuition have enabled him to progress at a spectacular rate. The teachers have good relationships with the parents. They take the time to get to know the children and take on board their individual areas for development.”
